Canon VIXIA HF R21 Digital HD Camcorder Review
The Canon VIXIA HF R21 Flash Memory Camcorder is a perfect choice for those seeking ease of use, high performance function and good value. The VIXIA HF R21 has a 32GB internal flash drive, together with two SDXC-compatible memory card slots, Canon's Relay Recording, a 3.0-inch Touch Panel LCD and Smart Auto. Its Genuine Canon HD Video Lens with 28x Advanced Zoom and Dynamic IS work in combination with the highly developed Canon Full HD CMOS Image Processor to deliver the crisp, lifelike video your HDTV demands.

Touch screens are always fun to use and the Touch Decoration feature makes it more enjoyable. This feature allows users to add some personalized customizations directly from the camcorder so there is no need to learn complex video editing software. Users can quickly add bubbles, shooting stars, or any freehand drawing creations that can spice up the video. The Smart Auto mode does the same enhancements to the scenes that it detects and it adds a new Tele Macro mode to allow better close-up shots.

So, is it worth it? That depends. The maximum recording time on the RF21 is about 2 hours and 55 minutes in full HD recording, but that’s before you factor in SD cards. You can easily expand the RF21 for more built-in memory.

VIXIA HF R20 Flash Memory Camcorder Review
Canon's VIXIA HF R20 Flash Memory Camcorder is a mid-range high definition camera that's packed with useful features and functions. Record 1920 x 1080 video to the R20's 8GB internal flash memory or to SD/SDHC or SDXC cards using the dual memory card slots. The 3.28MP CMOS sensor, Canon HD Video Lens, a 3.0" LCD, and basics like zoom options and the image stabilizer all work together to help you capture that stunningly detailed and crisp footage.

Like its predecessor, the HF R20 houses an internal flash drive that can store up to 8 GB worth of content. That translates to about 3 straight hours of video recording using the lowest quality setting or around 40 minutes at maximum MXP quality for Full HD 24 Mbps recording. Unlike the R10, the R20 features two SD card slots putting it much closer to the M-series so storage expandability is far better especially since it supports the SDXC card formats which start at 64 GB and can peak up to 2 TB. The Relay Recording technology ensures that the three memory areas are properly managed by intelligently moving on to the next available memory storage if the internal memory or one of the SD cards is already full.

Compared to the M-series, image stabilization is stripped to the basics but at least it is still present. The Dynamic IS system actually does a decent job in reducing vibrations when there is a need to zoom in a little bit.

The DIGIC DV III Image Processor powers the Smart Auto feature so beginners do not have to tinker with many settings just to get brightness, distance, and color levels. The Smart Auto feature takes care of these settings and they normally look accurate. When faces are the subjects, the Face Detection technology can effectively track up to 35 faces and place detection frames in 9 of them. Even if these faces turn sideways, the faces are still tracked. The Face Index feature can optionally be used to locate certain individuals when reviewing later.

The use of the touchscreen opens up some fun possibilities like the Touch Decoration feature where users can add fun images, animations, and drawings to videos directly from the camcorder so no PC connectivity is required.

For $399, this is a pretty good camera. I would like a better battery to it, but can live with switching out.

VIXIA HF R200 Full HD Camcorder with Dual SDXC
It can be a bit confusing when it comes to buying a digital camcorder. Looking at the price tag is not enough to determine if the camcorder is powerful enough to suit the recording needs. Some users may prefer storage while others would rather go for newer features. Canon is a good manufacturer to consider because of its way in categorizing the different models. The letter determines the intended crowd with the S-series for professional users while the R-series is for the entry-level folks. The number after the letter determines the generation so higher numbers are always better. The second digit reflects the internal memory where higher numbers are also better.

But if the first digit is followed by two zeroes, it means that there is no internal memory and the Canon VIXIA HF R100 and R200 share these characteristics. The Canon VIXIA HF R200 is the newcomer to the series and it brings a lot of improvements onboard.

Aside from the slight differences in color, the design is unchanged making the HF R200 a great entry-level device for people that are getting acquainted with the VIXIA series. Users will find the R200 to be comfortable because of its light 10.9-ounce weight and comfortable grip belt.

The only major change in the design is LCD display which is now touch-friendly so users can operate the screen and activate the different features just by touching the icons and menu items. This eliminates the need for buttons on the side and the extra space allows the screen to be bigger measuring 3.0 inches diagonally. This also led to the increased 230,000 dots resolution making these upgrades a nice addition to the interface and previewing videos look better too.

Another plus is the VIXIA HF R200?s low power consumption rate, allowing your battery to last longer.the advantages of flash memory go beyond the added recording time. You’ll also appreciate the quick response time, because there are no moving parts.the VIXIA family of camcorders is also a part of this achievement with Canon’s own full HD CMOS Image Sensor.

Canon VIXIA HF R200 the best flash memory camcorder for entry level that supports Full HD recording. This entry level camcorder is economical enough as of the lack of memory, but this can be overridden by ordering two Memory card.
